First, I would like to stress that vaccination against Covid-19 is the safest and most effective way of protecting yourself and others from infection and serious illness. All vaccines approved for use in the UK are completely safe and rigorously tested. If you have not yet taken up the offer of a jab, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible.
As you may know, vaccine procurement is a matter for the UK Government. The supply agreement between the UK Government and Valneva was terminated in September 2021 and therefore this vaccine will not form part of the UK portfolio. Although Valneva have received their phase three preliminary results and submitted their trial data to the MHRA, the company has not yet gained approval from the regulator. I will continue to follow progress closely.
The UK has sufficient supply now for the current booster campaign, as well as continuation of the primary vaccination programme. Boosters are highly effective at preventing omicron-related hospitalisations and deaths, as recent data shows.
