First, I would like to stress that vaccination against Covid-19 is the safest and most effective way of protecting yourself and others from infection and serious illness. If you have not yet taken up the offer of a jab, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible.
That said, vaccination is a personal choice. Take-up should be encouraged by reassuring and educating people on the benefits of vaccination rather than through any kind of mandate.
Across Scotland, take-up of the vaccine has been very high so I would like to thank all those who have protected themselves and those around them. First dose coverage amongst those aged over 12 as high as 92% while 68% of those aged 12 and over have taken up the offer of a booster.
I understand that the Scottish Government has no plans to introduce mandatory vaccination for NHS and social care staff in Scotland. Uptake of the vaccine amongst these groups has been exceptional, and I would like to thank them once again for their heroic efforts during the course of this pandemic.
