The cutting of classroom doors to improve ventilation

The SNP have had two years to come up with a proposal to improve ventilation in our classrooms, so teachers, parents, and pupils will be disappointed that all they have come up with is to cut the bottom off classroom doors. It is right that the SNP have halted this ridiculous plan following the public outcry.

There are also serious concerns that this could pose a significant fire safety risk. According to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), doors are key to preventing smoke and fire from spreading within buildings. The SNP Government should have taken the advice of the SFRS before putting forward this idea.

The Scottish Conservatives support increasing the number of air filters in classrooms, which is a more effective way of improving ventilation without endangering our children, and the Education Secretary needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a serious plan to improve ventilation in classrooms now.
