Recently, the Education Secretary unveiled the SNP Government’s underwhelming plans to reform the Scottish education system. She revealed a new public body will replace the SQA, and a new national agency will replace Education Scotland.
The SNP also finally agreed to establish a new independent inspectorate of schools which the Scottish Conservatives have long called for. However, the other measures fail to give our children the world class education they deserve.
This disappointing rebranding demonstrates the SNP’s lack of ambition to restore standards in schools that have failed a generation of young people.
Nicola Sturgeon asked to be judged on her education record and said it was her ‘number one priority’. On this basis, the poor state of Scotland’s schools is a damning indictment of her leadership.
