School Closures

With Covid restrictions easing across the country, it is welcome news that there are currently no school closure proposals.

Throughout the pandemic, the Scottish Conservatives have fought to ensure that young people’s education and well-being is protected. As well as being the only party to call for the full-time reopening of schools to be brought forward last year, we are calling for masks to no longer be mandatory in schools, and for children to not be required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive Covid case – something which the SNP finally agreed to last year.

Our children’s education has been disrupted too much already by the pandemic, so closing schools must be the very last resort. If however, the Scottish Government do decide they absolutely have no option but to close schools due to Covid-19, then they must firmly guarantee that they will reopen again as soon as possible.
