Unfortunately, dental services in Scotland have been severely affected by the pandemic. This means that many people like yourself are experiencing much longer waits than usual.
Although dental surgeries are now seeing patients again, the cleaning procedures they are required to carry out after each patient are much more rigorous than before. As a result less patients are being seen per day than before the pandemic.
While these cleaning procedures are necessary to protect staff and other patients the regrettable result is that many dentists are prioritising private patients who pay more.
This is not fair to patients who rely on NHS services. That is why the Scottish Conservatives are calling on the SNP Government to review the fees that dentists receive for carrying out NHS work so that everybody can have equal access to dental services.
We also need to see the SNP Government give proper support to dental services so that they can get through the treatment backlog and back to routine appointments as soon as possible
